extreme makeover -February 2004-

In Brazil there are lots of gay magazines, but the leading two are Homens and G magazine. In the Homens issue on the newstands in March my paintings are going to be featured. By way of celebration (and business of course:-) I’ve booked a ticket to Rio to be there when the magazine comes out.

By way of preparation for the trip I've been reworking some paintings. Sometimes it takes time before knowing what to do about something. As much as I would like to get it right the first time everytime, it’s just not the way it goes. Some-times flaws are not a problem, sometimes they add to the uniqueness and charm of a painting, but sometimes they seem to grow and become obnoxious, until there’s nothing to do but perform surgery. So I've been'operating' and the patients so far seem to be doing fine.

Rio does to me what I do to my paintings, working on flaws, a kind of ‘extreme makeover’ and all without anaesthesia:-)
